Dr. Jay Juchniewicz is Professor of Music Education, Coordinator of Graduate Studies, and Associate Dean for Research, Reporting, and Curriculum in the College of Fine Arts and Communication at East Carolina University, where his responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate instrumental music education courses, supervising student teachers, ECU Concert Band, and ECU Summer Band Camp.  He completed his Bachelor of Music Education, Master of Music Education, and Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education/Instrumental Conducting from Florida State University.  Prior to his position at East Carolina University, Juchniewicz taught at Jinks Middle School and Bay High School in Panama City, Florida.

As an instrumental music educator, Juchniewicz is an active clinician, adjudicator and conductor across the United States.  He has also performed as a solo pianist and member of several wind ensembles and orchestras throughout the United States, England, and Australia.

In addition, Juchniewicz has presented research at the National Association for Music Education National Conferences, International Conference on Music Perception and Cognition, as well as other regional, state, national and international conferences.  His articles have been published in the Journal of Research in Music Education, Psychology of Music, Journal of Music Therapy, Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, Journal of Music Teacher Education, Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, Music Educators Journal and other prestigious journals.  Juchniewicz serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Research in Music Education, and is a member of the National Association for Music Education, Society for Research in Music Education, Society for Music Teacher Education, College Band Directors National Association, North Carolina Music Educators Association and the North Carolina Bandmasters Association.
